What is the Factory Warranty on an Electric Polestar?

12/13/2023 / Gail Alfar

(Austin, Texas) I was invited to the Austin Volvo/Polestar dealership to see a stunning dual-motor electric Polestar 2. Upon arrival, I was warmly welcomed into the lobby and offered coffee and beverages as I settled into a luxurious leather lounge chair. I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of Michael, one of the Polestar specialists. Michael then escorted me to test a sleek black dual-motor all-electric performance model.

My questions revolved around Polestar's factory warranty and Supercharging options for road trips.

Polestar Factory Warranty

If a manufacturing defect causes any component of the vehicle to malfunction, it will be repaired or replaced by Polestar under warranty for the initial 4 years following delivery, regardless of ownership changes, or until you reach 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

Additionally, the Polestar factory warranty provides comprehensive coverage for battery performance and material/workmanship defects for up to 8 years or 100,000 miles, depending on which limit is reached first. If the battery's State of Health (SoH) falls below 70% of its original capacity within the initial 8 years of ownership, Polestar will provide a free replacement.

Michael also mentioned that Polestar has had minimal issues with battery function but once repaired a battery due to road debris damage, showing Polestar’s commitment to customer satisfaction.

Fast Charging with Polestar and the NACS

Michael shared his recent road trip experience in a Polestar 2, driving three family members and a baby to Dallas. He had no issues with fast charging, using a level three charger at an outlet mall between Austin and Dallas.

While discussing charging details, Michael surprised me by opening the frunk (front trunk). I was pleased to find that the vehicle has a decent-sized frunk and comes with a charging cable. The provided cable is a large thick CCS adapter attached to a hefty cable. Michael also mentioned that in 2024 Polestar would offer adapters for the North American Charging Standard (NACS).

Polestar recently signed an agreement with Tesla to adopt the updated North American Charging Standard (NACS), granting access to Tesla's extensive Supercharger network for all Polestar drivers in the U.S. and Canada.

Michael also explained that by 2025, Polestar vehicles would be built with NACS compatibility. This prospect is exciting because even if you purchase a Polestar today that can only charge within the CCS system, Polestar plans to provide NACS adapters for the vehicle. Polestar owners will be able to fast charge at Tesla's 50,000 Superchargers starting in April 2024.

As I returned to my Tesla Model Y, I noticed it had accumulated 27,000 miles in a year. If you're like me and love driving, you might reach the 50,000-mile mark before our years. That's where extended service coverage by XCare comes into play. I encourage people to think about what XCare Premium offers, which is full comprehensive coverage for all EVs, including the Polestar 2, and it includes the high voltage battery & drive unit.

The added peace of mind may be worth it, especially with Polestar electric vehicles relatively new and just embarking on the EV journey.

My visit to the Austin Volvo/Polestar dealership provided a first-hand look at the dual-motor electric Polestar 2. I was greeted with hospitality, enjoyed a comfortable lounge, and was invited on a test drive by Michael, a Polestar EV specialist. Most notably, I discovered that the fully loaded Polestar 2, impeccably manufactured in China, and available for $72,000, had an excellent build quality. This experience left me with a very positive impression of Polestar's customer service commitment.
