Why coverage matters

What Mazda EV Owners Consider

Understanding the ownership journey beyond the factory warranty.

01

Long-Term Ownership

Many Mazda owners keep their vehicles well beyond the factory warranty, making long-term repair planning an important part of ownership.

02

Typical Repair Concerns

While routine maintenance is generally low, certain high-value components can become expensive to repair as vehicles accumulate mileage.

03

Beyond Factory Warranty

Once factory coverage expires, unexpected repairs become the owner’s responsibility. Many owners explore coverage options before reaching that point.

04

Advanced EV Technology

Mazda EVs combine advanced battery systems, electronics, software, and mechanical components. Specialized coverage can help protect many of these components throughout long-term ownership.

What XCare Members Say About Claims

In their own words: XCare members on filing a claim and getting repairs paid.

Easy to work with. Both from an end user and from Tesla's end per the Supervising tech. Called XCare gave them my list of issues, scheduled appointment via app. Took vehicle in. Tesla determined faults, sent estimate and received approval same day. Tesla did repairs. Notified XCare and received corporate CC number, remaining balance due was $100. No issues.

James StarostaTesla Motors Club Members

I was unaware that the Tesla service department in Orland Park was honoring XCARE and submitting the repair claim on my behalf. I was so happy when they said, "Don't worry, we'll take care of the paperwork." I only had to pay my deductible, and they said XCare pays us fast.

Ralph P.Purchased XCare Through Dealer

I bought an XCare warranty for my Tesla. The guys were great. Buying was easy, as expected. I had no problems with claims. Had two door issues with my Model X and both times I just emailed the claims team, sent them the invoice, and they paid. I have to admit I always have some trepidation dealing with insurance companies but they were very communicative and helpful. Good product, good people, good service.

Eugene LeeTesla Motors Club Member

In my case, the overall experience was great. Tesla was willing to work with me to follow the XCare process, and XCare was able to get in touch with the Tesla Service Center directly to make the payment during service hours.

Edy T.XCare Member circa 2025

I’m so appreciative Brent helped purchasing XCare after my Tesla warranty expired with my 2017 model X because there were not too many trustworthy warranty companies unless you extend Tesla warranty at Exorbitant premium when I was shopping around. More over Brent has been helping me with claims every single time , probably more than five times and if he was not available he would connect me to other representative. No other warranty company has that kind of service I cannot thank Brent enough as he was extremely professional, didn’t mind going extra miles to help me Whether I had flat tire or mechanical issues with my Tesla . If XCare offers extended warranty after 100,000 miles I’m definitely buying it. Now that there are lots of Tesla drivers out there they should consider extended warranty and I highly recommend XCare.

Mazda Warranty Coverage and XCare Protection

See what your Mazda factory warranty covers, what happens when it ends, and how XCare Premium works.

Your Mazda’s basic factory warranty lasts 3 years or 36,000 miles. Its high-voltage battery coverage lasts 8 years or 100,000 miles. Your battery can still be under warranty when you’re responsible for a failed touchscreen, suspension part, or A/C compressor.

XCare Premium covers qualifying failures of major vehicle components, with a fixed term and a choice of eligible repair shops.

This table shows the XCare Premium base contract. Included means the factory part is within the plan’s scope for a qualifying failure. A failed touchscreen assembly is different from cracked glass, and a failed A/C compressor is different from an excluded hose. The agreement issued for your vehicle, including state amendments, controls.

XCare does not cover cosmetic defects. That includes paint, body panels, bumpers, door seals, weather stripping, and glass.

High voltage battery eligibility

At purchase, the vehicle must be within the current model year or the seven preceding model years, have fewer than 100,000 miles, and have a battery thermal management system. The claim must meet the contract’s battery breakdown and capacity requirements. A Mazda can qualify for Premium without qualifying for high-voltage battery coverage.

If you only want battery and drive unit protection, ask about XCare Battery & Drive Unit Only.

Coverage start and end

XCare Premium
Plan typeFixed-term vehicle service contract
Coverage startsAfter the 30-day waiting period for a new contract
Coverage endsAt the expiration date, mileage limit, or liability limit in the agreement, whichever comes first
Used vehicle eligibilityEligible vehicles can qualify after factory coverage ends, including vehicles bought from a dealer or private seller.
High-voltage batteryIncluded in the Premium contract price for vehicles that meet battery requirements.

The expiration mileage in an XCare quote is the odometer limit for that contract. It is separate from the mileage at which you can buy the contract and from the purchase mileage requirement for high-voltage battery coverage.

When Mazda factory coverage still applies

If Mazda’s factory warranty should pay for a repair, start with Mazda. XCare excludes costs that should be covered by a manufacturer warranty, recall, or dealer assistance program.

For example, if your Mazda’s basic warranty has expired but its battery warranty is still active, take a qualifying battery issue to Mazda first. A failed touchscreen is a separate repair: if no Mazda warranty applies, it can be evaluated under your XCare agreement.

Should I get an XCare quote while my Mazda is still under warranty?

If you plan to keep your Mazda past its basic warranty, check your options while it’s newer and has fewer miles. That can mean more plan options or a lower price, depending on your quote. Buying early does not change which repairs Mazda is responsible for. Compare the XCare start and end dates with your remaining Mazda warranties so you can see how much protection extends beyond what you already have.

Repair shops and authorization

XCare Premium
Mazda dealerAllowed, subject to claim authorization
Eligible independent EV repair shopAllowed, subject to shop eligibility and claim authorization
Before repairs startStart your claim with XCare and follow its instructions before approving repairs.

Confirm that an independent shop can diagnose and repair the specific system, especially for high-voltage work. You may be responsible for inspection or teardown charges if the repair is not covered.

Roadside assistance

XCare Premium
Roadside assistanceIncluded, subject to contract limits.
How to request helpFollow your contract’s roadside instructions. Different limits apply to dispatched service and reimbursement for service you arrange.

XCare lists towing, portable EV charging, flat-tire changes, fluid delivery, and lockout assistance. It also provides reimbursement for qualifying meals or lodging when a covered breakdown leaves your vehicle inoperable more than 100 miles from home, subject to contract terms. A tow gets your Mazda to a shop; the repair agreement determines whether the failed part is covered.

Cost and monthly payments

Limits on XCare repair payments

For one breakdown, the base contract caps payment at the lowest of the vehicle’s actual cash value just before the breakdown, the equivalent J.D. Power valuation, or the repair cost calculated using national labor and parts guides.

Across the full contract, the cap is the lowest of the vehicle’s actual cash value at sale, the equivalent J.D. Power valuation, or the vehicle sale price shown in the contract, excluding tax, title, and license fees. These caps are calculated before any applicable deductible.

Paying for XCare through Affirm

Pay for XCare in full or apply to pay over time through Affirm. Affirm payments repay the purchase of a fixed-term XCare contract. Your loan payment schedule and coverage term are separate.

Affirm financing is subject to eligibility. Review the cash price, APR, payment schedule, and total amount payable. Compare plans over the same ownership period, including financing charges.

Cancellation and transfer

XCare Premium
When coverage endsOn the effective cancellation date under the contract.
Future paymentsCancellation ends the service contract. If financed, check how any refund is applied and what balance remains.
Early refundXCare publishes a full refund during the 30-day waiting period, subject to applicable contract and state terms.
Later refundA prorated refund is available when the contract’s refund terms are met.
Selling the vehicleThe contract determines eligibility, paperwork, deadlines, and any fee.

Canceling XCare does not by itself settle an Affirm balance. Confirm who receives any refund and whether anything remains due. If you want the buyer to keep coverage, check transfer eligibility before canceling.

Starting a repair claim

Start your claim online with the XCare claim form. You can also call 877-302-6721 before repairs begin. Have your contract number, current mileage, and a short description of the problem ready.

Once the shop identifies the failed part, the administrator reviews the diagnosis and estimate. Wait for authorization before approving the repair. If the repair is covered, you’re responsible for your deductible and any charges the agreement doesn’t cover.

Mazda warranty questions

Can I buy XCare for a used Mazda or one already out of warranty?

Yes. Eligible vehicles can qualify after factory coverage ends, including vehicles bought from a dealer or private seller. Vehicle age, mileage, title, and use restrictions apply.

Does a drop in range qualify as a battery claim?

A drop in estimated range alone doesn’t establish a covered battery breakdown. Mazda covers capacity below 70% of original. XCare applies its own eligibility, breakdown, and capacity terms.

Can I buy XCare to cover a problem my Mazda already has?

No. A new contract excludes breakdowns that occurred before or during its 30-day waiting period.

Does XCare pay for routine maintenance?

No. XCare excludes routine maintenance and items such as brake pads, rotors, tires, and wheels.

Does XCare cover cosmetic defects?

No. XCare does not cover cosmetic defects of any kind, including paint, body panels, bumpers, door seals, weather stripping, and glass.

Who can buy XCare Premium

Eligible new and used vehicles can qualify, including vehicles purchased from a dealer or private seller. Start with your model year and current mileage. Title and vehicle use restrictions also apply. Purchase eligibility is separate from high-voltage battery eligibility and from the mileage at which coverage ends.

Call (866) 584-1307
Does XCare cover every Mazda EV?
XCare covers the MX-30. Get a quote to see the plans for your exact vehicle.
What does Mazda’s factory warranty cover?
Mazda’s basic coverage lasts 3 years or 36,000 miles, and its high-voltage battery coverage lasts 8 years or 100,000 miles. Terms vary by model and year.
Can I buy XCare while my Mazda warranty is still active?
Yes. Buying earlier usually costs less and gives you longer terms. XCare runs alongside Mazda’s warranty, not after it.
Do I have to use a Mazda dealer?
No. You can use any licensed repair shop certified to service EVs, Mazda dealers included.
Can I cancel?
Yes. Cancel within the first 30 days for a full refund if no claim has been paid. After that, the refund is pro-rated by the days or miles used, whichever gives the smaller refund, less a $50 fee and any claims paid.
What does the Mazda battery warranty cover?
Mazda covers the high-voltage battery on its EVs for longer than the bumper-to-bumper warranty; each model’s page shows its years and miles, and what else that warranty includes. After that, battery repairs are yours to pay. XCare Premium covers the battery on eligible models past the factory battery warranty when the vehicle is under 100,000 miles and no older than the current model year plus 7 when you buy, and the XCare Battery & Drive Unit plan covers just the battery and drive unit.
Should I get a Mazda extended warranty on a used Mazda?
A used Mazda keeps whatever is left of Mazda’s factory warranty, so check the in-service date and miles before you buy. XCare covers used Mazda EVs too. Get a price with the year and miles of the car you’re looking at, so you know the cost of protecting it before you buy.
